Treatments - General Information

Initial Consultation

Your consultation will begin with an assessment of your current issues, your previous health history and present lifestyle, followed by an initial treatment. The assessment may include some things that you may not have thought connected to your chief complaint, such as your emotions, sleep, work, life and family situation. This is part of the holistic approach to health care, which considers the whole person, their life situation and environment, rather than just a few isolated symptoms. When put together, all the information forms a picture, which reveals a pattern of imbalance. Although your chief complaint will be addressed, the whole picture is taken into consideration when determining the best course of treatment for you.

Effects of a Session

During treatment most people experience a pleasant state of relaxation and release of tension. Afterwards you will generally feel both relaxed and invigorated. This sets the healing process in motion. Relief of symptoms can be immediate and lasting or develop a few hours later. People's response to treatment varies and the full effects of a session may actually be experienced a day or so later. Sometimes the relief lasts for a few hours or a day or two, after the first visit, and then progressively longer, with each successive session.
It helps to drink plenty of water after your session and to have some quiet, reflective time. You are advised to avoid alcohol, caffeine and recreational drugs and, if possible, strenuous or stressful activities immediately afterwards. Very occasionally healing reactions occur, such as drowsiness, headache or mild flu-like symptoms. These are due to toxins being released from the tissues into the blood stream for elimination and normally disappear within a day and leave you feeling considerably better. In a similar way deep-seated emotions can rise to the surface to be released. Feel free to contact me if you have any concerns.

Things to consider before the consultation

  • Do not eat a full meal for at least 2 hours before a session.
  • Try to avoid caffeine, alcohol or non-prescription pain medication
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing
  • Bring a list of any medications you are taking
  • Think about what you would like from the session and what would be your ideal outcome.

Make sure you are on time for your appointment so that you will be relaxed and can get the full benefits. When you make an appointment, please understand that this time has been reserved for you. There will be a charge for appointments that are missed or cancelled with less than 24 hours notice.
